indian muslim man with short beard (india)

I took this photo at a cattle market I stumbled upon on the road in West Bengal (India).

All the local farmers were there to buy and sell livestock. Most of them were Muslim. This is a portrait of one of those farmers.

The brown color of his teeth is probably from chewing Betel nut. Betel nut is consumed by many people in India, as a psycho-stimulating and euphoria-inducing drug. Or maybe from chewing tobacco.

Photos taken in India in 2013

The highlight if this trip was the Maha Kumba Mela Hindu Festival, the largest human gathering on earth, which happens once every 12 years.

Other regions visited include the springs of the Ganges river, Varanasi, the Konark sun temple.

See also my photos of Nepal that I took the same year.

I took those photos at a small cattle market I stumbled upon on the road near Mahashunda village in West Bengal (India).

All the local farmers were there to buy and sell livestock (often young animals). Most farmers were Indian Muslims.
