himalaya mountains panorama from auli ski resort (india)

This is a view of the Himalaya Mountains from the Auli ski resort near Joshimath (India)

It looks amazing in high resolution.

In the center, the double hump is the Haathi Parvat mountain also known as Elephant Peak (6,727 m - 22,070 ft).

Photos taken in India in 2013

The highlight if this trip was the Maha Kumba Mela Hindu Festival, the largest human gathering on earth, which happens once every 12 years.

Other regions visited include the springs of the Ganges river, Varanasi, the Konark sun temple.

See also my photos of Nepal that I took the same year.

Photos of the region around Joshimath and the Alaknanda Valley (India).

The Alaknanda is one of the headstreams of the Ganges.

When I was there, the road to Badrinath, one of the holy pilgrimage destinations for Hindus in India, in the upper Alaknanda Valley, was not opened yet.

So, instead, I went to explore the Dhauliganga valley, one of the tributary of the Alaknanda.
