Water level gauge painted on a boulder in the Alaknanda river bed (India)
I guess if the water level reaches above 3 meters, the huge boulder would roll down, so they didn't bother painting the scale on the top part!
The Alaknanda river is one of the headstreams of the Ganges river.

The highlight if this trip was the Maha Kumba Mela Hindu Festival, the largest human gathering on earth, which happens once every 12 years.
Other regions visited include the springs of the Ganges river, Varanasi, the Konark sun temple.
See also my photos of Nepal that I took the same year.
Photos of the region around Joshimath and the Alaknanda Valley (India).
The Alaknanda is one of the headstreams of the Ganges.
When I was there, the road to Badrinath, one of the holy pilgrimage destinations for Hindus in India, in the upper Alaknanda Valley, was not opened yet.
So, instead, I went to explore the Dhauliganga valley, one of the tributary of the Alaknanda.
