Upstream view of the Shrinagar Dam on the Alaknanda River (India)
The dam (still under construction) is equipped with 8 Tainter gates (Radial floodgates), and it will produce 330 MW of hydroelectric power.
This is one of the 14 operational or under construction hydro power projects on the Alaknanda river, which is one of the headstreams of the Ganges river.
For more information about this type of floodgates, read en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tainter_gate.
Photos taken in India in 2013
The highlight if this trip was the Maha Kumba Mela Hindu Festival, the largest human gathering on earth, which happens once every 12 years.
Other regions visited include the springs of the Ganges river, Varanasi, the Konark sun temple.
