Semi-abandoned Train Depot
(Puerto Limon, Costa Rica)

Photos by Tristan Savatier

I jumped a fence to take those amazing photos. The train depot is (almost) abandoned. Several rusted, half disassembled diesel-electric train engines are sitting in the yard. Some old train cars were painted for a festival a couple of years ago. A couple of engines are still in running order.

Some of the diesel-electric locomotives, box cars, and oil tank cars (e.g. on first photo) came from Newfoundland, Canada after the GFCR (Grand Falls Central Railway) company closed down in 1977.

You can find more information on the old Costa Rican's jungle railroad in Paul Glassman’s Costa Rica Guide.

Equipment used: Sony DSC F828 (8 Mega-pixel) with 4GB Microdrive.
