Photos of the Pinnacles National Park (California), taken in April 2017 during 2 days of hiking on the most scenic trails of the park.­

The dramatic landscape with red cliffs, pinnacles and caves is formed by breccias rocks, which are the geologic remnants of an extinct volcano located near the San Andreas fault.­

Several "talus caves" can be found in the park.­ Deep, narrow gorges and shear fractures were transformed into caves by large chunks of rock falling from above and wedging into the cracks leaving an open area below.­
