ducks in bamboo cages

Live ducks in bamboo cages, on sale in a street market (Vietnam)

In most of the developing world, people prefer to buy their meat alive. They kill the animals at home just before cooking them.

They rarely have a fridge, so keeping the poultry alive is the best way to ensure it stays fresh (until it's cooked)!
