Yamunotri consists of a Hindu Temple and a few guest houses where pilgrims can stay, and pools filled by a sacred hot springs, where pilgrims can bathe.­ Yamunotri is one of the four sites of the Chhota Char Dham Hindu pilgrimage.­

The Yamuna is the largest tributary river of the Ganges.­ It meets the Ganges at the Sangam near Allahabad, site of the largest human gathering on Earth, the Hindu Kumbh Mela festival.­
